P. Flinn Schanuel2 May 2024 Some times , some days , some hours, or even some phone calls can result in a bad encounter with this facility, but overall CID is a really good place that Hemet is lucky to have accessible in town. Be patient if you have to have a non-stat appointment scheduled, then don't miss it. It has many services available on site. Service dogs are allowed. Waiting rooms are clean, orderly, and have TV Plasmas set up. On my most recent visit to CID, I was scheduled to get biopsies on a mobile traveling unit (Dedicated Biopsy Services). I was hesitant, but the mobile unit was clean & well equipped. The technicians were excellent, the doctor was experienced & knowledgeable, and they were all polite, kind, informative, and professional. Although I don't recommend biopsies for fun, I do give this most recent experience an overall thumbs up. Osteoporosis is characterized by weakened bones and an increased risk of fractures. Evaluating the risk of osteoporosis is vital for early intervention and effective management of the condition.
A Bone Density Scan (DEXA) is a highly accurate and reliable method for evaluating bone health and determining the likelihood of osteoporosis.
This diagnostic tool measures bone mineral density, providing essential data that healthcare providers use to make informed decisions about treatment and prevention strategies.
The DEXA scan is particularly valuable for individuals at higher risk of osteoporosis, including postmenopausal women, older adults, and those with a family history of the condition. During the scan, low-dose X-rays capture detailed images of the hip, spine, and sometimes other skeletal areas.
The procedure is quick, non-invasive, and painless, offering patients a comfortable experience while delivering critical insights into their bone health.
Results from the scan can reveal early signs of bone loss, allowing for timely medical interventions to strengthen bones and reduce the risk of fractures.
In the context of a patient-centered approach, our diagnostic center prioritizes personalized care and detailed evaluations to ensure each patient receives the most accurate and relevant information about their bone health.
Our team of experienced radiologists and healthcare professionals is dedicated to providing thorough osteoporosis risk evaluations, guiding patients through the process, and discussing the results in a clear and understandable manner.
This commitment to patient care ensures that individuals have the knowledge and support they need to maintain strong, healthy bones and prevent osteoporosis-related complications.
A Bone Density Scan (DEXA) is an indispensable diagnostic tool for evaluating bone health. This advanced imaging technique measures bone mineral density (BMD), helping to identify conditions such as osteoporosis and osteopenia.
Early identification of these conditions is vital as it enables healthcare providers to implement preventive measures and treatments that greatly reduce the risk of fractures and other complications.
A DEXA scan is crucial for maintaining overall well-being because of the prevalence of bone-related health issues, especially among older adults.
The precision and accuracy of a DEXA scan make it the gold standard for bone density measurement. It uses dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry to provide detailed images of the spine, hip, and other critical areas where fractures commonly occur.
By offering detailed insights into bone health, a DEXA scan assists physicians in crafting personalized treatment plans tailored to each patient’s needs. This targeted approach enhances the effectiveness of treatments and contributes to better long-term health outcomes.
For residents in Hemet, CA, access to thorough diagnostic services like Bone Density Scans is essential for proactive healthcare management. Regular DEXA scans can track changes in bone density over time, enabling timely interventions that can prevent severe complications.

GOT QUESTIONS?
A Bone Density Scan, also known as Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA), is a non-invasive imaging procedure that measures bone mineral density. It is used to assess the strength of bones and the risk of fractures, particularly in individuals who may be at risk for osteoporosis or other conditions that affect bone health.
Individuals who should consider getting a Bone Density Scan include postmenopausal women, men over the age of 70, individuals with a family history of osteoporosis, those who have experienced fractures from minor injuries, and anyone who has been on long-term corticosteroid medication. Your healthcare provider can help determine if a DEXA scan is appropriate for you based on your medical history and risk factors.
Preparation for a Bone Density Scan is minimal. It is advisable to avoid taking calcium supplements for at least 24 hours before the test. Wear comfortable clothing without metal fasteners, belts, or zippers, as these can interfere with the scan. If you have recently had a barium examination or have been injected with a contrast material for a CT scan or other test, inform the technician as these substances can impact the results.
During the procedure, you will lie on a padded table while a scanning device passes over your body. The scan usually focuses on the lower spine and hips, as these areas are most prone to fractures. The procedure is quick, generally taking about 10 to 30 minutes, and is painless. You will need to remain still during the scan to ensure accurate results.
The results of a Bone Density Scan are typically presented as a T-score and a Z-score. The T-score compares your bone density to the average peak bone density of a healthy young adult of your sex. A T-score of -1.0 or above is considered normal, between -1.0 and -2.5 indicates low bone density (osteopenia), and -2.5 or lower suggests osteoporosis.
The Z-score compares your bone density to what is expected in someone of your age, sex, weight, and ethnic or racial origin. A healthcare provider will discuss the results with you and recommend any necessary follow-up actions based on your scores.
